Drew Powell and Marc Valera will reprise their roles in MANDATE by Kelly Younger at the Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival in New York. They first performed the one act play in Snapshots 2013, a series of one act plays for the Susan G Koman Foundation.
“Forced into a guy’s night out by their wives, a stay-at-home dad and a stay-in-his-cubicle accountant go on a disastrous ‘first date’ only to learn that friendship really is magic.”
In an interview with Off Off Broadway Festival, Kelly Younger explains his inspiration for the play:
Every year I participate in Snapshots, a festival of new plays benefitting the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure event. It is a great group of actors, writers, and directors in Hollywood who turn out for one great cause and several great nights of theatre. I specifically wrote MANDATE for two actors I’ve wanted to work with for a long time: Drew Powell and Marc Valera. The personal inspiration for the play, however, came from a very simple question: how do you make friends after a certain age? Specifically guys. With spouses. And kids. And if your five year old daughter makes you watch My Little Pony, does that make you a brony? And can you bring that up on a guy’s night out? So I guess my play was really a cry for help!
MANDATE will be presented at the Samuel French OOB Festival on Friday, August 8th at 8pm. Tickets are available here.
